ALMA CARRAOVEJAS aspires to be recognized as one of the Spanish benchmarks in the world for the quality and variety of its wines, and for its careful tourist-gastronomic offer, with the ambition of creating lasting value.

The challenge is to be able to inspire us, every day, to develop authentic products and services, relying on a happy and sustainable organization with itself and with its environment, seeking constant improvement, to achieve maximum quality through innovation, obstinate in preserving our own culture of the organization and the people that compose it as heritage.

 

In 1973 José María Ruiz represented Spain in the first world sommelier competition. This experience made him want to set up his own restaurant that was finally born in Segovia in 1982. Since then and until today, it has been and is a benchmark for gastronomy throughout the country. We all know and have been able to enjoy its excellent and careful gastronomic offer and its good work.

 

His passion for wine led him to create, together with a group of Segovians, a winery in an area of great red wines, Las Laderas de Carraovejas located in Peñafiel.

 

It would be in 1991 when that first vintage arrived, which started the extensive harvest of successes and recognitions that until today they have achieved. All this, after a process of effort and thoughtful growth and based on the high demand for quality.

 

In 2007 Pedro Ruiz, son of José María returns to the company to take over its general management. His leadership and sense of strategy contribute to garner a series of important recognitions and valuations in the business and wine sector.

 

In its continuous process of development and growth, a series of very important events will take place for the project: in 2016 Ossian will arrive.A unique project that gathers the witness of five centuries of winemaking tradition and that advances in the history of Alma Carraovejas. In 2017 Ambivinum opens, framed in the Pago de Carraovejas facilities, the Ambivium Restaurant was born to respond to the need for a different space with creative and innovative cuisine and as a complement to the winery's offer of wine tourism. The year 2019 leads them to the D.O Ribeiro, with Viña Mein. And also takes them to the highest area of the Ribera del Duero with Milsetentayseis.
