Madrid

The Specific Wines of Madrid was recognized in 1984, it was not until 1990 when its regulatory council was constituted. It is the only denomination of origin in the world that coincides with the name of a country capital.

There are three wine-producing sub-zones covered by the Wines of Madrid Designation of Origin: Arganda del Rey, Navalcarnero and San Martín de Valdeiglesias. In total there are about 7,500 hectares of vineyards belonging to 54 municipalities in the south of the Community of Madrid, being the sub-area of Arganda del Rey, located in the southeast of Madrid, the one with the most municipalities and the one with the highest production. Each area has a very different soil ranging from limestones to sandy ones, passing through brown. The climate is strongly continental.

The preferred and authorized white varieties are: Albillo Real, Malvar, Airen, Macabeo (Viura), Moscatel Grano Menudi, Parellada, Torrontés (Alarije) and Sauvignon Blanc.

And the preferred and authorized red varieties are: Garnacha Tinta, Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Cabernet Sauvignon, Graciano, Merlot, Negral (Garnacha Tintorera), Petit Verdot and Syrah.

Today there are more than 40 wineries that sell the wine, this allows the consumer to choose from a wide range of great wines that will not leave you indifferent. Find them in our online wine shop. From Madrid to the sky.
