Bierzo

Side. Bierzo is a designation of origin established in 1989 in the southwest of the province of León. The Bierzo cultivation area is located in the Sil river valley, on soils of moist brown soil and a mild and rather mild microclimate.

The Bierzo is a group of small valleys in the mountainous area and a wide and flat depression, the lower Bierzo, which will configure the types of crops. The Bierzo has a very special microclimate, very suitable for the crops in the area. The natural barrier of the Sierra de los Ancares calms the impetus of the Atlantic storms and generates a continental climate, with influence of the Ocean, appropriate for the cultivation of the vine.

The elaboration of its wines is carried out only with authorized grape varieties. Red varieties: Mencía as a preferred variety and Garnacha Tintorera. White varieties: Godello and Doña Blanca as preferred and authorized Palomino and Malvasía.

La Mencía is the main variety of the D.O. Bierzo and represents approximately 74.5% of the production of qualified grapes. It produces excellent red and rosé wines, soft and velvety of high quality.

Stand out as one of the best D.O. from Spain and with great international projection.
